🎯 How Aerial & Circus Classes Compare to Dance, Gymnastics, and Sports
Many of our students come to aerial from gymnastics, dance, cheer, or team sports—and they love how it combines strength, creativity, and personal growth in a fresh way.
How It Compares:
- Gymnastics: Aerial builds similar upper-body strength, flexibility, and body control, but with more creative freedom and less competition. Students still climb, hang, and invert—but they also express themselves and progress at their own pace. Learn more about aerial silks here.
- Dance: If your child loves movement, rhythm, or performing, aerial is a natural fit. Silks-based movement supports flexibility, core strength, and coordination—all of which complement dance training. Many dancers take private aerial or flexibility lessons specifically to increase their range of motion and improve control in their technique.
- Team Sports (like soccer, basketball, or cheer): Aerial training builds strength, focus, and perseverance—without the high-impact strain of contact sports. It’s an excellent option for staying active during the off-season or developing body awareness and endurance in a new way.
Whether your child is new to movement or already active in other sports or activities, aerial gives them an exciting way to build confidence while trying something new.

Circus Camp at Kansas City Aerial Arts was a huge hit. My daughter came home with new skills. Her favorite was learning the silks and how to hold herself up and then twist down into her position. She gained strength and confidence and loved the performance at the end of the week.
