Daniel Parks was born and raised in KCMO metro area before attending the University of Central Missouri, where he earned a B.F.A. in Technical Theatre. During that time, he was twice named a finalist for the Barbizon Award for Excellence in Lighting Design through the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. He was a Stage Crew apprentice for the 2005 and 2006 seasons at Santa Fe Opera and has worked locally as a lighting designer since 2006 and in production management since 2013.
From 2006 to 2015, Daniel worked with Quixotic, spending much of that time as Lighting and Projections Director. His work has taken him across the United States and internationally, including projects connected to the TED stage, Costa Rica, Canada, and Bahrain. He previously served as Assistant Technical Director at KU’s Lied Center for the 2013 and 2014 seasons and later founded his own production company offering production services and lighting equipment rentals.
Daniel began aerial training in 2012 under Jennifer Prohaska, before the founding of Lucia Aerial Performing Arts. In 2016, he took ownership of Lucia, which later became Kansas City Aerial Arts. His background gives him a unique perspective on both the aerial training history of Kansas City and the production needs of high-level performances, corporate events, and branded entertainment.
Today, Daniel combines his experience in lighting, production, aerial arts, and event entertainment to support Kansas City Aerial Arts as both a training studio and a professional performance company. He especially loves trapeze.
